To track the progress of the backup, open the Google Photos app and tap your profile image on the top right corner of the screen. Tap Confirm, and Google Photos will start backing up your images. The former reduces the size of the images by reducing their quality, while the latter stores them in their original size and quality – choose the option that best suits your needs.ħ. Choose the image quality of your backups: Storage saver or Original quality. If you have more than one Google account on your phone, choose the account you want to back up the photos to and then tap on Back up as. From that point on this will be the default location of your library. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching Photos. The Configuration process will happen and get completed in some time. Copy the Photos Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk. Select the Other Library option, Then another command box will open select your external hard drive. On the next pop-up, decide whether you'd like Google Photos to send you notifications or not.ĥ. Then the command Box Choose Library will appear, named Choose Library. If you see a pop-up asking you for access to your photo gallery again, tap Allow Access to All Photos.Ĥ. The app may ask you for access to your photo gallery, so tap Allow access to all photos.ģ. Select the Aperture library on your external hard drive. Now, when you import photos or video, Photos leaves the files in their original location and accesses them as referenced files. When the process to move Apple photos for OS 10.15 library to an external drive is complete, hold the Option/Alt key and launch Photos. Deselect the Copy items to the Photos library checkbox. In the Photos app on your Mac, choose Photos > Settings, then click General. Aperture will now display a message to ask you choose a library, click Other Library. Store imported files outside the Photos library. Once copied, open Aperture while holding down the Option key. The copy may take some time depending on how large your library is. You can also simply copy ( Cmd + C) and paste ( Cmd + V) the Photos Library file onto your external hard drive. Let the files copy (this might take some time). Once verified, drag and drop the Photos Library icon onto the hard drive icon, either in Finder's sidebar or on your desktop. After it's installed, start Google Photos. Drag the Aperture Library icon to your external hard drive. If it's not already installed, start the App Store app and install Google Photos.Ģ.
